چکیده

The inertial sublayer of adverse pressure-gradient (APG) turbulent boundary layers is investigated using new experimental measurements ( $7000 \lesssim \delta ^+ 7800$ ), existing lower Reynolds number $\delta \approx 1000$ ) and computational ^+<800$ data sets, where ^+$ the friction number. In present set-up layer under modest APG conditions, Clauser PG parameter $\beta$ ${\leq }1.8$ . Constant adverse pressure gradient turbulent boundary layers

Significant progress has been made towards understanding the large scale features of wall-bounded shear flow in zero pressure gradient (ZPG) turbulent boundary layers (TBL). Here we consider their effects in adverse pressure gradient (APG) flows where the pressure gradient parameter is held constant and Reynolds number is varied. This is done by documenting the changes in the mean velocity, str...

A parametric study of adverse pressure gradient turbulent boundary layers

There are many open questions regarding the behaviour of turbulent boundary layers subjected to pressure gradients and this is confounded by the large parameter space that may affect these flows. While there have been many valuable investigations conducted within this parameter space, there are still insufficient data to attempt to reduce this parameter space. Here, we consider a parametric stu...

The Structure of Zero, Favorable and Adverse Pressure Gradient Turbulent Boundary Layers

The effects of pressure gradient on an initially zeropressure-gradient turbulent boundary layer are investigated. We consider both adverse and favourable pressure gradients at matched Reynolds number as compared with the zero pressure gradient case. The data are also acquired using matched sensor parameters so that an unambiguous comparison can be made. The results show that energy increases th...

LES of the adverse-pressure gradient turbulent boundary layer

We describe large-eddy simulations (LES) of the flat-plate turbulent boundary layer in the presence of an adverse pressure gradient. The stretched-vortex subgrid-scale model is used in the domain of the flow coupled to a wall model that explicitly accounts for the presence of a finite pressure gradient. The LES are designed to match recent experiments conducted at the University of Melbourne wi...

Coherent structures in turbulent boundary layers with adverse pressure gradients

The coherent structures in turbulent boundary layers (TBLs) subjected to adverse pressure gradients (APGs) were investigated by analyzing a database of direct numerical simulations. The equilibrium adverse pressure gradient flows were established by using a power law free-stream distribution. The population trends of the spanwise vortices show that the outer regions of the APG TBLs are densely ...
